Cosmetics International was started in Malibu
in 1956 by Jan
and Frank
Day. Jan, who was intrigued by skin care,
wanted to help women start their own businesses,
a radical concept in that era. The company was
birthed in her garage, with a biochemist and
a dermatologist. Word spread rapidly and soon
JAFRA was a multi-million dollar enterprise.
In the 1980s, JAFRA was bought out by Gillette.
Then, in 1995, private investors took over.
Now JAFRA is in 20 other countries in addition
to the U.S. and is in its fourth straight year
as the fastest growing
direct sales company in the world.

ANNE'S PERSONAL JAFRA SUCCESS STORY
My
husband and I, and our one-year-old daughter,
moved to Albuquerque from New York almost four
years ago. After twenty years as a City Planner
with my own consulting firm, I knew I was getting
burnt out. In my heart, I felt that I was meant
to be doing something else, but I didn't know
what.
Shortly
after we moved, a friend of mine said, "You
love skin care so much, why don't you do something
with that?" I'd had adult acne in my twenties
and thirties and had done serious research into
skin products. Still, I looked at my friend
like she was crazy. At the same time, because
I had moved from a humid climate to a very dry
one, I could feel my skin peeling off and itching
all the time. And you really have to protect
yourself in the high desert from the rays of
the sun. I could see myself aging twenty years
in a year. I had heard about JAFRA years before
and remembered them as having good quality products,
so I called and met with a JAFRA consultant
who recommended particular skin products for
me. A week later I called her again, shouting
for joy, "My skin feels fabulous!"
Soon afterwards, I signed up as an independent
JAFRA consultant. The concept of direct sales
really appealed to me and I knew people who
did extremely well in it. As a New York skeptic,
first I had to get very comfortable with all
of JAFRA's products. I tried the Royal Jelly
line and experienced the healing properties
of that special ingredient. I spent months doing
personal sessions with my neighbors, my friends,
my mom, so I could see how people reacted to
the products and how they enjoyed their makeovers.
Finally my husband said, "You know, Anne,
I hear you when you're doing a personal out
in the dining room and you get so enthusiastic.
Why don't you do this full time?" So I
did it: I took a leap of faith.
I had never sold anything in my life, but by
then I knew all the products very well. I had
been using them myself and loved them. I knew
I was taking on a personal challenge because
I had to tap into different skills than I'd
ever used before. For example, I never considered
myself artistic because I couldn't write poetry
or paint. However, I found out that I do make-up
really well - I've been asked to do wedding
parties - so I tapped into a part of myself
that's very creative. Until recently, I didn't
even wear make-up! But I'm not trying to make
believe I'm somebody else. I found that when
I treated people the way I like to be treated,
they came back. And JAFRA pays me a 50% commission
on everything I sell. In multi-level marketing,
that's excellent!
Now I'm a JAFRA Manager, earning a respectable
living while being my own boss and creating
my own work schedule so I can also be home with
my daughter. Thank you, JAFRA! |
